The incident took place on Friday at around 7 pm near Bahana Bazar station in Balasore district. After the accident, rail traffic had to be stopped on this route.
First came the news of derailment of the train, then the collision was reported.
An hour after the accident, the news of the derailment of the train came in Balasore at around 8 am. After this, another train derailment was detected. Around 10 am, it was learned that two passenger trains and a goods train had collided with each other. Railway officials told that a goods train was standing on a line at Bahanga Bazar station. Howrah-Chennai-bound Coromandel Express derailed here and collided with a goods train. The engine of the express overturned the goods train and the bogie fell on the third track. - 1000 passengers who survived the accident were sent to Howrah by Visvesvaraya-Howrah Express.
- A special train from Balasore sent 200 passengers with food and relief material.
- Three NDRF and 20 fire service and rescue teams are on the spot. 1200 of them are rescuers.

- Due to track closure, 48 trains have been cancelled, 39 diverted and 10 have been rescheduled.
- The inaugural program of the Goa-Mumbai Vande Bharat Express scheduled for Saturday was cancelled.
- The Chief Secretary of Odisha said at 8 pm on Saturday night – the death toll so far is 288.
The location of the accident was detected from the layout of the yard.
This yard layout shows the position of all the three trains at the time of the accident. The middle up line is where the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express was arriving. On the other hand, the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express was crossing on the other down line. Some coaches of the Coromandel Express derailed, after which it collided with a goods train on the side track and some coaches also fell down from the main line. Railway Minister, CM of Odisha-Bengal reached Balasore
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav reached Balasore in the morning and ordered an inquiry into the accident. He announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased, Rs 2 lakh to the seriously injured and Rs 50,000 to the injured. Expressing grief over the accident, Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi have appealed to the party workers to help the people.India train accident
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik visited Balasore Hospital. He has announced a day’s political mourning in the state. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee also reached Balasore. There was a difference of 3 hours between the two trains reaching Bahanga station, but they arrived together.
Train No. 12864 Bengaluru – Howrah Superfast Express departed Yeswantpur station, Bengaluru at 7:30 AM on 1 June. It was supposed to reach Howrah on June 2 at around 8 pm. It reached Bhadrak at 06:30 with a delay of 3.30 hours from its scheduled time. The next station was Balasore, where the train was scheduled to arrive at 7:52 with a delay of 4 hours.
Whereas, Train No. 12841 Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express left Howrah at 3:20 PM on June 2 itself. It reaches Chennai Central on June 3 at 4:50 PM. It reached Balasore on time at 6.37 pm. The next station was Bhadrak where the train was supposed to reach at 7:40 am, but the accident occurred when the two trains crossed each other near Bahanaga Bazar station at around 7 am.India train accident
14 years ago, at the same time on Friday, the Coromandel Express derailed in Odisha itself.
The Coromandel Express suffered a similar accident 14 years ago, i.e. on 13 February 2009. Coincidentally, that accident also happened around 7:30 in the evening. The train was going towards Jajpur railway station. Meanwhile, she went on the wrong track and her 8 bogey overturned. 16 passengers were killed and more than 40 injured in the accident.India train accident
